The Klein Family History

Wilhelm Johan and Elisabeth Klein Come to America
This book begins with the original immigrant ancestor, known as Johan Wilhelm, Jean Guillaume, Wilhelm Johan, Johannes Wilhelm, etc. The family from his second marriage to Elisabeth Binsfeld is the foundation of the Klein family in America. Both Wilhelm and Elisabeth Binsfeld were previously married. Wilhelm was married to Susanna Seyler and Elisabeth to Georges Franck. Both spouses died young. With small children to raise, Wilhelm and Elisabeth married in 1859. The civil registration books from Bettborn, Luxembourg, 1797-1902, (Family History Library Films #1883901, 1792894, and 1792895) have been examined for births, deaths and marriages of the Klein, Seyler, Binsfeld and Franck families. These Luxembourg records were civil records and written in German. The families lived in the village of Reimberg, Canton of Redange, Luxembourg.

This book traces our primary descendant, Emil E. Klein, his wife Angela Pauly and their ten children.

The Coat of Arms

Preizerdaul Coat of Arms
The coat of arms shown on the title page is from the municpality of Preizerdaul, which until 2001 was called Bettborn. The main village was owned by the Everlange family, whose arms showed a bar and two stars. These arms formed the basis of the arms of the village. The fess was made wavy to represent the part of the village called Roudbaach, or red brook. The fleur-de-lis represents the village of Préizerdaul/Bettborn itself, as it is the symbol of the St. Mary, patron saint of the village. The three stars represent the other three villages in the municipality, Platen, Pratz and Reimberg (the immigrant home of the Kleins in Luxembourg). The name of the municipality was changed in 2001 from the French version to the local Letzeburgian version. The background is tan; the three stars and fess are in red, and the fleur-de-lis in blue.
